How to Fix Cracked Window Borders

Wear and tear can cause cracks in the window border, also referred to as the frame. This is especially common on exterior frames, which often decay from moisture and sunlight. Cracks in the frame take away from the decor and make your home look old. You can renew the windows by mending any cracks, large or small, in the borders, no matter if the frame is inside or outside.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe dust and grime from the window frame with a moist cloth. Allow the frame to dry.

    • 2

Smooth wood filler into the crack in the frame using the provided applicator or a putty knife.

    • 3

Remove excess wood filler from the frame with a cloth. Allow the wood filler to dry thoroughly.

    • 4

Paint over the filled crack with a paintbrush. This is necessary only if the wood filler is a different color than the frame's paint.
