Place a draft snake at the base of the window. These simple items usually include grain or gravel wrapped in a sturdy cloth, which prohibits air from coming in through loose window sills and door frames. Push the draft snake into the tiniest crevices at the bottom of the window sill. Remove the snake whenever you need to.
Apply a window insulation product to the window sill. This material normally comes in large sheets. Apply a sheet of the window insulation material over the whole window and adhere the edges of the material with the tape that comes with the kit. Apply heat from a blow dryer on to the surface of the plastic insulation on the window to shrink the material and to create a barrier between the cold air from the window sill and the interior of the room.
Install thick curtains over the window. Keep the curtains closed at all times to keep the window sill from allowing cold air into the area.
