How to Remove a Swing Bar Door Guard

If your front door lacks a peep hole, a swing bar door guard allows you to see who is at your door without opening the door and giving the visitor access to your home. Swing door guards operate in much the same way as a door chain. A metal loop and peg system allow you to crack your door enough to see outside. Swing bar door guards are stronger than chains and less likely to break if an intruder pushes against your door while you are peering through.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the door. While it's possible to remove a swing bar door guard with the door open, closing the door gives you something to brace against – making the removal process easier.

    • 2

Fit the screwdriver into the screws holding the peg portion of the swing bar door guard to the door. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen each screw.

    • 3

Pull each screw out of the holes on the peg side of the swing bar door guard. The metal peg portion of the door guard will fall away from the door once your remove both screws.

    • 4

Unscrew each screw that attaches the slide bar to the door frame. Remove the slide bar.
