How to Reattach a Pocket Door

Pocket doors slide in and out of the wall and move on a track system. This type of door is convenient in rooms with little space to accommodate a door that swings out. There are occasions when the pocket door slides out of the track or must be removed for repair. Many people attempt to simply slide the door back into the track system, but a few more steps are required to get a pocket door back in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the track at the top of the pocket door frame. Inside of the track are two wheeled carriages, also known as rollers. Pull the carriages to the center of the door frame.

    • 2

Position the top of the pocket door underneath the wheeled carriages.

    • 3

Hook the hangers on the top of the door into the wheeled carriages. Many pocket doors have three to four hangers. Stand on top of a chair or stepladder for better access to the top of the door.

    • 4

Tighten or loosen the nuts on the wheeled carriages with an adjustable wrench until the pocket door is plumb and able to slide back into the wall pocket.
