How to Determine the Glass Size in a Frameless Shower Door

Frameless glass shower doors use tempered glass with specialty cuts for the hinges and handle. Many frameless shower doors are custom-fit to the shower to account for inconsistencies with adjoining shower walls. When replacing a broken shower door or if you simply want to change the look of your bathroom with new doors, it is necessary to measure the door or the opening. Determining the specific size of the glass in a frameless shower door is similar to measuring for your home's entry door.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the frameless shower door. Measure the top width of the door with a tape measure, and write the measurement down on a piece of paper.

    • 2

Measure the bottom width of the door and write it down. Although the top and bottom width should be the same, sometimes the door has different widths to accommodate a wall that is out of plumb.

    • 3

Place the end of the tape measure on the top outside corner of the door and measure to the bottom outside corner. Write this measurement down as the door length.

    • 4

Measure the bottom width of the fixed panel of the shower, if you have a frameless door with a fixed inline panel. Then measure the length of the inside panel and write both measurements on the paper.
