Open the solid-core Pella storm door a few inches, and slide the hold-open washer to the end of the closer piston body. This holds the door open whil you disconnect the closer.
Grab the piston body of the closer with one hand and pull it toward the latch side of the door. This provides some slack in the stem connecting to the bracket on the door. Pull the pin securing the stem end of the closer to the door bracket. Continue holding the piston, and slide the hold-open washer back toward the hinge side of the door. Release the piston of the closer.
Remove the screws securing the closer to the door jamb with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the closer completely away from the opening. If you have a chain at the top of the door, unhook it from the bracket at the top of the door, and remove the screws securing the chain mounting bracket to the door jamb.
Open the Pella storm door fully so you have access to the hinge screws. Ask your helper to hold the door, while you remove the screws securing the hinges to the door frame, starting with the bottom hinge. Move the door out of the opening.
Score the seam between the outside edge of the storm door frame and the home with a utility knife. This cuts through the silicone caulk and any paint that might hinder removal of the frame.
Remove the screws securing the Pella storm door frame to the door opening with a Phillips screwdriver. The screws are on the outside of the door frame.
Insert a small pry bar between the top of the frame and the house. Carefully pry the top of the frame toward you until you are able to grab it with your fingers. Grab the top of the frame and slowly pull it toward you while your helper pulls on the side jambs of the frame. Remove the frame completely and scrape away any residual caulk from the opening with a putty knife.
