How to Fix a Broken Blinds Holder on a Window

Blinds that begin to pull away from the wall have loose brackets that require repair. The end brackets, which might also be called holders, lock the head rail of the blinds onto the wall. Brackets often are mounted onto a hollow wall with screws. Over time the screws pull out of the drywall. Fixing a broken blinds holder on a window requires removing the blinds and resecuring the brackets with plastic anchors. It is a good idea to purchase a small box of assorted sizes of plastic anchors to match the mounting holes in the wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the blinds completely up with the pull cord. This compresses the blind slats against the bottom of the head rail.

    • 2

Check the front of each end bracket to determine how to open the bracket. Most department store brands and others have a front face that slides off when you push it toward the center of the blinds. Some manufacturers use a front face that unsnaps from the bottom and swings up to open the end bracket. It is usually necessary to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the front face open.

    • 3

Grab the head rail of the blinds near each end bracket. Pull the head rail out of the brackets and place it on the floor out of the way.

    • 4

Remove the screws securing the end brackets to the wall with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the brackets away from the wall and inspect the area of the wall around the screw holes. You are likely to find that the holes have widened to a point at which they are too large for the securing screw.

    • 5

Insert plastic anchors — slightly larger in diameter than the hole — into the existing screw holes. Tap the anchors with a hammer until they are flush to the wall surface.

    • 6

Position the end bracket onto the wall, lining up the mounting holes with the plastic anchors. Thread screws through the mounting holes and into the anchors. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 7

Install the head rail of the blinds back into the brackets, and secure the head rail with the bracket face cap.
