How to Get All Particles & Dust Off Plexiglass Before Spray Painting

Plexiglass is an acrylic see-through material used in place of glass for its additional strength and resilience. You can easily spray paint plexiglass to achieve a specific hue. Before spray painting, you will need to remove any dust and particles to ensure that the spray paint dries evenly and cleanly to the surface. Since plexiglass can scratch more easily than glass, you need to take care to avoid scratching the surface while cleaning the glass. There are some non-abrasive methods to clean plexiglass of dust and debris.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Stand the plexiglass sheet against a wall, or set it on a table, with it standing on an edge, so that you have access to the entire sheet of plexiglass. Standing the plexiglass on an edge will prevent scratching while it is on the table.

    • 2

Place the safety goggles over your eyes to protect against any pieces of debris, dust or particles that might fly off the plexiglass.

    • 3

Press down on the trigger to release the stream of compressed air from your can. Spray in a left to right motion from the top of the plexiglass to the bottom to remove any dust. Avoid spraying for more than 30 seconds at a time, as the can will get very cold.

Wipe down the plexiglass sheet with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Move from the top of the plexiglass to the bottom to ensure that all of the debris is removed.
