How to Fix Leaking UPVC Bay Windows

Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (uPVC) bay windows are constructed of a material similar to vinyl and are low-maintenance due to their high level of resistance to oxidation, chemical exposure and sunlight. Such windows are commonly used as a substitute to traditional wood-framed windows. Over time, these bay windows can experience leaks due to weather and normal wear. Fix a leaking uPVC bay window using a few items that can be found at most hardware stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what is causing the leak. Check for visible cracks and collections of water. Areas of decay wood around the frame are also a common source for leaks.

    • 2

Remove the cracked area using a chisel or electric drill.

    • 3

Apply silicone sealant around the area you just cut out.

    • 4

Fill the hole or area with the epoxy resin.

    • 5

Wait 24 to 48 hours for the epoxy resin to dry and then re-examine the area to ensure all cracks, holes and gaps have been sealed.
