How to Close a Bay Window After Installation

After installation, a bay window should close easily and seal tightly. But because the window is new, it may require some adjustments. If the window has sat in a warehouse for some time, it may have lost lubrication and be hard to operate. Attempt to close it first by following the directions provided by the manufacturer. If the window still won't close, some troubleshooting may reveal other issues to address.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Open the lock on the bay window.

    • 2

Pull down on the window if it's double-hung or crank the handle if it's a casement type.

    • 3

Keep pulling down the window or moving the crank until the window is tightly pulled against the frame.

    • 4

      Push the lock closed.

    • 5

Inspect the window if it won't shut completely. Look for obstructions in the frame and remove them. Tighten the screws on the handle and lock; loose hardware can affect how the window operates and prevent it from closing properly. Apply a silicone spray to the hardware to lubricate it.
