How to Install Tabs on Kitchen Cabinets With Glass Doors

One way to prevent glass cabinet doors from slamming and damaging the glass is to place tabs on the inside of the cabinet door. Felt tabs are available at home improvement centers and hardware stores. They have an adhesive backing that sticks to the door, while the tab cushions the cabinet door against the cabinet frame when closing. The key to successfully installing tabs on kitchen cabinets with glass doors is to have a clean work surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the cabinet door and clean the inside of the door with a cloth dipped in denatured alcohol. This provides a clean surface for the adhesive on the felt tab without damaging the finishing of the cabinet door.

    • 2

Close the door slowly and observe where the inside of the door meets the face of the cabinet frame. Make a mark on the inside of the door with a pencil near the top and bottom corner where the door meets the cabinet.

    • 3

Peel the plastic backing off of an adhesive felt tab. Open the cabinet door and press the adhesive side of the felt tab onto the back of the door at one of your marks. Press the tab firmly to ensure that it adheres to the door. Repeat the process for the other mark on the cabinet door.
