How to Repair a Window Leak on a Stucco House

Leaks around a stucco house's windows occur for numerous reasons, including improper window installation and moisture trapped in the wall. Continuous moisture accumulation around the windows results in mildew and mold and can cause permanent damage to the structure surrounding the window if left untreated. Although a professional contractor may eventually be required to repair or replace a window, you can minimize the window leak by caulking the area around the window to prevent water from continuing to seep through.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe up as much moisture as possible from around the window with a dry cleaning cloth. Wait until the window's area is completely dry before attempting to repair the leaking area.

    • 2

Saturate a scrubbing brush with household chlorine bleach and scrub the area surrounding the leak if mold or mildew are present.

    • 3

Wipe the bleached area with a damp cleaning cloth, and wipe the area with a dry cloth.

    • 4

Insert the caulk cartridge into the caulking gun and point the tip of the caulking gun around the window's seal.

    • 5

Squeeze the caulking gun's trigger gently to slowly and evenly distribute caulk. Move the caulking gun tip around the entire area of the window to form a thin, continuous bead of caulk.

    • 6

Wipe up accidental caulk build-up around the window area for a clean finish.
