Pocketless Door Hardware Installation

Pocketless doors – along the wall or barn doors – enclose spaces such as closets and pantries. Essentially, a pocketless door is the same as a pocket door, except the door is not hidden in the wall framing. The door simply slides along a track installed at the top. Before you begin installation, you should make sure that you know the exact measurements of your doorway so you properly install the door hardware.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure both the height and width of the doorway where you plan to hang your pocketless door using a tape measure. This may require two people — one to hold the tape measure and the other to read it and write down the measurements.

    • 2

Cut the length of track you need, using a hacksaw. Double the door width measurement to determine the length of track your door will require.

    • 3

Attach the track to the ceiling or the door header with the screws provided with your door and a cordless drill. The track needs to be installed at the height the length of the door requires. To be able to attach the track to the door header, the bottom of the header height must be more than 1 ¾ inch higher than the length of the door.

    • 4

Measure 1 ½ inches from the top side edge of the door. Also, find the center line of the top of the door. Attach the hanger at the intersection of these measurements, using the screws provided with your door and a cordless drill.

    • 5

Position the door guides on the floor once you have hung the door. Make sure the door slides freely between the guides before you attach them to the floor, using the screws provided and a cordless drill.

Adjust the hangers with the wrench provided with your door. To raise the door, turn the wrench clockwise. Turn it counterclockwise to lower the door.
