How to Remove Atrium Window Sashes

Single-Hung Window

  Pry out on the sash clip located about ¾ inch up the vertical window jamb with the blade of a small, flat-head screwdriver. Pry the clip out to a 45-degree angle. Repeat the process to release the clip on the opposite side of the window.

  Unlock the window. Grasp the window at the top and bottom, and raise it until it passes the clips that were disengaged.

  Slide the sash horizontally in the frame until one side of the sash clears the jamb. Rotate the side of the sash that cleared the jamb outward from the window frame.

  Slide the sash horizontally from the opposite side of the jamb, and remove it from the window frame.

  Install the sash in the reverse order of the way you removed the sash.

Double-Hung Window

  Unlock the window, and lift the bottom sash 3 inches.

  Push inward on each of the tilt latches on the top edge of the bottom sash. Hold the latches in that position while rotating the top of the sash away from the window frame.

  Rotate the sash downward so that it is at a 90-degree angle to the window frame. Push downward on one side of the sash while holding upward on the opposite side to disengage the sash pivots from the bracket in the jamb track.

  Lift the high side of the sash upward, and then pull it toward you. Pull the pivot on the opposite side of the sash from the jamb. Remove the sash from the window frame.

  Remove the upper sash by pulling it down 3 inches and repeating the process you used to remove the bottom sash.

  Install the sashes into the window frame by using the removal method in reverse order.

Horizontal Sliding Window

  Unlock the window, and slide open the sash a few inches.

  Grasp the sash on each of its vertical sides, and lift the sash upward until the bottom of the sash clears the bottom window jamb.

  Rotate the bottom of the sash inward a few inches.

  Lower the sash slowly until its top clears the upper window jamb. Remove the sash from the window frame.

  Remove the remaining sash by opening it a few inches and repeating the process you used to remove the other sash.

  Install the sashes into the window frame by reversing the order of tasks you used to remove each sash.
