Remedy for a Frozen Glass Window

If your glass window is frozen and covered with ice, you can remove the ice with a simple home remedy. This method is necessary especially for car windows, since other de-icing methods, such as using warm water or the defroster, can potentially crack the window. The same home remedy used for melting the ice off a window can also be used to prevent the window from freezing in the first place.

Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar or rubbing alcohol

Instructions

    • 1

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. If you're low on vinegar, mix a solution that is 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Alternatively, use rubbing alcohol instead of vinegar.

    • 2

Spray the vinegar or alcohol solution liberally on the ice that is frozen to the window. Wait three to five minutes for the ice to melt.

    • 3

Reapply the vinegar or alcohol mixture if the ice was thick and one round of spray was insufficient to melt it all.

    • 4

Prevent ice from freezing on your windshield overnight by spraying the same mixture on the windows before you go to bed.
