Open the Wayne-Dalton steel garage door until the bottom edge of the bottom section is in the curve of the track. Move the door up and down slightly while watching the end of the weather strip channel to determine the best position for pulling the existing weather strip out of the channel. There is a spot where the bottom edge extends beyond the door opening just enough to have unobstructed access to the end of the channel.
Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into each of the two channels on the weather strip track. Twist the screwdriver handle slightly to spread the ends of the channels enough to slide the existing weather strip out of the channels.
Grab the end of the weather strip with your fingers and pull it straight out of the track. If the weather strip seems stuck, grab the end of the weather strip with a pair of pliers for extra leverage when pulling.
Lay the new weather strip on the ground with the ribs facing down. Apply a thin film of dishwashing liquid to the “T” edges of the weather strip with your finger. The dishwashing liquid helps the new weather strip slide into the two channels.
Position one end of the weather strip next to the end of the track. Fold the end so that it forms a “U” shape and the “T” sides align with the track channels. Slide the “T” sides into the track channel, and push the weather strip down the length of the track until you can no longer push it down into the channels.
Hold the remaining weather strip even with the end of the channel with one hand, and grab the end in the track with your free hand. Pull the weather strip down the length of the channel while keeping uninstalled weather strip even with the end of the channel. If the door is wider than 10 feet, ask a friend to hold the excess weather strip while you pull it down the track.
Trim off the end of the weather strip even with the end of the track with a utility knife. Squeeze the ends of the channels together with a pair of pliers.
