How to Get Bi-Fold Doors to Line Up

Line up uneven bi-fold doors with the adjustable pieces found on many doors. Bi-fold doors are adjustable in height by the bottom pivot. Adjusting the upper pivot levels the door. Installing a door aligner connects flimsy doors together. Some adjustments may require repeating one, two or even three times to fully line up the doors.

Instructions

  1. Line Up Height

    • 1

Grip the bottom of the door. Lift. Move the bottom pivot out of the bracket.

    • 2

Twist the pivot clockwise to raise the door. Twist it counterclockwise to lower the door.

    • 3

Lower the pivot into the bracket. Release the door.

    Level

    • 4

Twist the top pivot bracket screw loose.

    • 5

Move the bracket back and forth along the track until the door is level.

    • 6

      Tighten the screw.

    Install Aligner

    • 7

Sit inside the closet. Close the doors fully.

    • 8

Place an aligner level on the doors. An aligner consists of two pieces. It forces the center of two bi-fold door panels to meet in the middle. One aligner piece should sit on the edge of one door with the other piece on the opposite door.

    • 9

Position the aligner 6 to 12 inches from the floor.

    • 10

      Hook the aligner pieces together.

    • 11

      Tighten the screws.

    • 12

Open the doors and step outside. Close the doors. If the doors do not close tightly and have an even reveal between them, reposition the aligner.
