Create a mixture of one-quarter cup ammonia and 3 cups warm water in a plastic spray bottle. Shake the bottle vigorously to incorporate the ammonia and water.
Spray the window, windowsill and trim with the ammonia mixture. Wipe the mixture away with a paper towel. Allow the window, sill and trim to dry completely before continuing.
Cut four pieces of double-sided tape to fit the four sides of the window. Attach the tape along the outside edges of the window trim and sill.
Close the blinds and remove the wand according to the blind’s instructions. Remove the protective covering from the double-sided tape and center the plastic sheet against the window. Press on the edges of the sheet to affix to the tape.
Run a hair dryer along the edges and the entire surface of the plastic sheet to shrink it. Continue to run the dryer over the plastic until it is tight. Cut away the excess film from around the window with a utility knife.
Locate the plastic wand hook at the top of the blinds. Tape a square around the hook with clear plastic tape. The tape provides an extra layer of protection to prevent the plastic film from ripping.
Cut a hole inside the perimeter of the square with a sharp utility knife. Grasp the blind’s cord with your fingers and carefully pull it out from behind the plastic film. Reattach the wand. This allows you to use the blinds without damaging the plastic.
