Open the sliding door. Straddle the sliding door’s track so both your arms easily reach each side of the door. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the current door handle in place. Gently pull apart the door handle from the door. Place the former door handle aside.
Measure the screw holes in the sliding door. Record the measurements and take the old door handle set to the hardware store for reference. Compare new keyed cylinder door handle sets with the former door handle for size. Select a door handle set with a similar size to the former door handle set. Ensure that the new door handle set has the same measurements as the screw holes in the sliding door.
Read the manufacturer’s instructions for installation on the keyed cylinder door handle set. Check to ensure all the parts are in the package. Slide the door open partially. Straddle the door’s track so your arms reach each side of the door. Place the front panel of the door handle on the inside of the sliding door. Line the screw holes up with those on the front panel. Tape the door handle in place with masking tape.
Position the back panel of the keyed cylinder door handle set on the outside of the sliding door. Adjust the back panel so the screw holes match up. Tape the back panel in place on the door with the masking tape. Fasten the door handle set to the sliding door with the screws, including in the door lock’s package.
Remove the masking tape from each side of the sliding door. Test the installation by trying to move the door handle set up or down. Tighten the screws if needed. Close the sliding door and lock, and check to ensure the lock works properly. Wipe the door with window cleaner and a soft cloth to eliminate any traces of the masking tape.
