How to Repair a Hole in Dual Pane Windows

Occasionally, double-pane windows will fog up due to moisture that becomes trapped between the two panels of glass. A common fix to rid your windows of fog is to drill two small holes into the glass to allow ventilation. Once the windows have had time to vent, you can repair the hole, or cover it, depending on your preference. Both options do not take much time.

Things You'll Need

  • Clear fingernail polish
  • Rubber plug (optional)
  • Clear tape (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Roll the clear nail polish between your hands to mix it up without causing air bubbles.

    • 2

Dip the nail polish brush into the nail polish and then paint over the hole in the glass. If you can open the double-paned windows to separate the two pieces of glass, which will provide access to both sides of the broken glass panel, then do so. Paint both sides of the hole if you can separate the glass pieces. If you cannot separate the glass, allow a small amount of the polish to fill in the hole.

Wait a few minutes for the polish to dry and then apply a few additional coats of polish until the hole is filled. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next coat.
