Replace existing curtains with a heavy sound-absorbing drape. These drapes significantly reduce the amount of outside sounds heard inside your home. Thick drapes covering your window also create a barrier to stop cold air from entering your home.
Repair cracks along the edges of the window frame. Drafty air and sounds can enter the house through cracks in the wall. Inspect your window frame and check for breaks or cracks in the drywall. Open a tube of wall sealant or caulk. Slowly squeeze the tube to apply caulk to the interior edges of your window.
Block cold air with a draft snake. Position this fabric tube along your window sill to reduce a cold draft and better insulate your home.
Install weatherstripping. Measure the length of the top and sides of your window frame. Cut weatherstripping to size. Apply strips along the edges of your window frame by pressing the self-adhesive strips against the frame.
Apply insulation film. Measure your window's surface and cut the insulation film to size. Attach the film to your window with double-sided tape. Complete the installation by heating the film with a hair dryer.
