Pull on the two clips located in the upper corners of the sash. This releases the sash from its position in the window frame's track. Tilt the top of the sash toward you. Lift up one corner of the bottom of the sash and spin the sash in the frame. Lift the sash out of the frame and place on a table or other flat surface with the interior side of the sash facing up.
Pry off the plastic glazing stop on the right side of the window sash with the putty knife. The glazing stop is the long, vinyl strip that covers the seam where the glass and the plastic sash meet. Pry off the glazing stop on the top side. Finally, pry off the stops on the left side and bottom of the sash.
Use the utility knife to cut through the bead of caulk around the glass to break the seal that adheres the glass to the window frame. Turn the sash over so that the interior side of the sash faces down.
Slide the blade of the utility knife between the glass and the exterior vinyl frame of the window. Slip the blade all the way around the glass, keeping the blade inserted approximately one inch deep. You may need to run the blade between the glass and the frame several times to loosen the bond.
Stand the sash upright on the table with the exterior side of the sash facing you. Carefully push the upper portion of the glass toward your assistant. Have your assistant catch the glass and remove it from the frame.
Remove the rubber gasket surrounding the two glass panes. Remove the aluminum or vinyl spacers on each side of the glass pane unit. You may need to tug firmly or use the utility knife to loosen the seal.
