Unlock the window locks on the double-hung window in need of repair. Remove the bottom sash from the window frame by tilting it toward you, and pivoting one side up, until you can lift it out from the window opening. Set the sash aside. Remove the top sash in the same manner.
Grasp the base of one jamb liner on one side of the window frame. Squeeze the sides of the jamb liner until one side pops out from the window frame. Work your way up the entire side of the window, and continue to squeeze and work the jamb liner out of the window frame. Carefully remove the jamb liner from the window frame. Repeat this process for the jamb liner on the other side of the window frame.
Scrape out the bead of window and door caulk along the window sill on each side of the window frame where you removed the jamb liners, using a utility knife.
Clip the tip of the window and door caulk tube off at a 45-degree angle, using the built-in cutter on the caulk gun. Puncture the seal inside the tip of the caulk tube, using the puncture seal on the caulk gun. Insert the caulk tube into the caulk gun, tip-first.
Apply a fresh bead of caulk along the window sill where you removed it in Step 3.
Insert the replacement jamb liners into the window opening on their respective sides of the window frame. Slide the bottom tips of the jamb liners into the slots in the window-frame sides. Squeeze the jamb liners and pivot them into the slots, working your way from the bottom up to the top of the window-frame sides.
Slide the clips on the inside of the jamb liners down to the middle of the jamb liners, using a flat-head screwdriver. The window sashes have clips that snap into the clips in the jamb liners. This facilitates the operation of each window sash.
Pivot the top window sash into the window opening and snap the clips into place. Insert the sash back into the window frame by applying slight pressure to the jamb liners with your hands, as you slide it back in place. Repeat this process to re-install the bottom window sash. Lock the sash locks.
