The easiest way to remove wallpaper border is to use a clothes steamer. Prepare the steamer according to the manufacturer's directions. A handheld or personal steamer will both work.

    • 2

While you're waiting for your steamer to heat up, poke holes in the wall border by using a wall paper scoring tool. Don't press too hard or you could damage the wall under the border. You don't need a lot of holes, just enough that the steam can get under the border and loosen the glue.

When the steamer is nice and hot, it's ready to start removing the wall border. Start by placing the steamer's wand as close to the border as you can without touching it. It's best to begin at a seam in the border. As the steamer heats the wall border's glue, it will begin to peel off the wall. It won't damage the wall if you touch the steamer directly to it, but you may block the actual steam from getting under the wallpaper border.

Hold the steamer wand in one hand. In the other, gently use a metal putty knife to encourage the wall border removal. Be careful not to dig at the wall paper, you don't want to make dents in the drywall.
