How to Make Glue for a Wallpaper Border

The next time you redecorate your home using brand new wallpaper border, try making your own homemade wallpaper border glue. Our mothers and grandmothers would whip up their own homemade batches of wallpaper glue, and would swear by its durability. These same homemade glue recipes are still popular today, and are just as durable now as they were in the past.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup white flour
  • Large sauce pan
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Mixing stick
  • 2 cup boiling water
  • 1tbsp alum
  • Large air-tight container

Instructions

      Combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1 1/2 cups of white flour in a large sauce pan.

      Add 1 cup of cold water.

      Stir the mixture with a mixing stick until the mixture is free of all lumps.

      Place the sauce pan on a stove over medium heat.

      Add 2 cups of boiling water to the mixture, and stir constantly.

      Bring the mixture to a boil.

      Remove the sauce pan from the heat once the mixture becomes stiff.

      Add 1 tbsp. of alum to the mixture.

      Store the mixture in an air-tight container while it is still fresh.
