How to Remove Wallpaper With Things From Home

Removing wallpaper can be a dreaded job. Most of us have heard the horror stories of wallpaper removal. But if you use the right products and methods for removing wallpaper, it will come off rather easily. You can buy commercial wallpaper strippers; however, these products are costly and often ineffective. You can remove wallpaper with things you already have right at home.

  • Empty spray bottle
  • 1/3 cup fabric softener
  • Plastic putty knife
  • Rags

Instructions

      Fill a clean, empty spray bottle with 2/3 cup of water. Add 1/3 cup of fabric softener. Secure the lid on the bottle and shake well.

      Spray a generous amount of the solution onto the wallpaper. Let it sit on the wallpaper for 10 to 15 minutes.

      Peel off the wallpaper with your hands, working from the bottom of the wall and lifting toward the ceiling. Scrape any remaining wallpaper from the walls with a plastic putty knife.

      Apply more fabric softener and let it sit for 10 minutes to loosen any backing and glue left on the wall, if necessary. Scrape the area again with the putty knife to remove any remaining backing or glue.

      Wipe down the walls with a damp rag once all of the wallpaper, backing and glue are gone. Allow the walls to dry thoroughly before painting or putting up new wallpaper.
