How to Measure for Grass Cloth Paper

Using a grasscloth wall-covering gives your room a natural or exotic flair depending on the rest of your furnishings or decor. Pairing grasscloth with wicker, rattan or twig furnishings results in a room with a outdoorsy, natural feel to it. Combining it with leopard prints, bear rugs, smooth leather furniture or other animal prints gives it an exotic ambiance. Grasscloth is available in many colors and the horizontal patterns tend to make a room appear larger, therefore it is especially beneficial in smaller rooms. Measuring your walls for grasscloth is not a difficult task.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a tape measure to calculate the height and width of each wall in the room. Write down each measurement as you take it.

    • 2

Multiply the height and width of each separate wall. This will give you the square footage.

    • 3

Add up the sums of each wall to get the total square footage of the room.

    • 4

Subtract 15 square feet from the total sum for each window and door that is an average size.

    • 5

Measure the height and width of any large or irregularly-sized doors and windows to calculate the correct square footage. Subtract this from the total of the room. This will leave you with the square footage area necessary to cover the walls in the room.
