How to Glue Tileboard to a Wall

Tileboard is exactly what it sounds like: a board made of individual tiles joined together in large sections. Using tileboard is a quick way to cover your wall with tiles. This fast, convenient method requires minimal work and a few important items. You will need glue or a strong bonding liquid adhesive for the tiles. For the wall, you will need panelboard cement. Additionally, you will need a notched spreader to help with your project. All these items, including the tileboard, can be picked up at your hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the wall. Clean off any debris and protruding areas from the wall's surface.

    • 2

Take your notched spreader, apply cement to the surface and spread it on the wall. Do not make notches or grooves with the spreader. Use only the flat surface to make your cement application.

    • 3

Coat the wall evenly with the panelboard cement compound. When finished, you will have a smooth cement surface. Give the cement time to set and dry.

    • 4

Clean off your notched spreader, removing all debris of remaining cement. You may need to soak it in hot water.

    • 5

Take your tileboard, turn it over so you are looking at the backside.

    • 6

Use your notched spreader to cover the liquid adhesive to the back of the tileboard panel. Make sure you leave notches while applying the glue. When each tileboard is complete, you should have many grooves switching off between the glue areas.

    • 7

Leave about 2 inches space around the edge of each tileboard free from glue.

    • 8

Attach the tileboard to the wall after each glue application. You will need to attach the tileboard to the wall before the glue fully dries for best results.

    • 9

Bend the tileboard slightly. Then gently attach the bottom section to the wall as you press down on the middle and top. Moving up like this will prevent air pockets from forming.

    • 10

Move slowly when attaching the tileboard sections to the wall.
