How to Patch a Basement Wall

Basements are used by many as a storage or game room. They are usually basic areas with a concrete pad and cinder block walls. You should pay attention to the space to catch maintenance issues as they crop up. Things such as cracks in the wall must be taken care up as they develop so that they don't get worse. This can be accomplished with a few supplies from the hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out the inside of the crack. Use a scrub brush and water to loosen any debris. Let this dry completely.

    • 2

Set the injection ports in the crack about 8 inches apart. These ports come with a foundation crack sealant that you use to fill the crack. The ports are shallow plastic tubes with a flat base that are inserted in the crack, and are used as the opening where the sealant will be squeezed into the crack. The crack itself will be covered over in the next step so that the ports are the only openings.

    • 3

Smear the epoxy paste over the edges of the ports and over top of the crack. This keeps the ports in place and makes a thin cover over the crack so that the sealant will not ooze out. This will force it to work its way into the crevices of the crack. Let the paste dry for about an hour.

    • 4

Push the sealant into the lowest port and keep squeezing until it starts to come out of the port that is above it. Once you see it coming out, move to that port and continue until you have pushed the sealant into all the ports. Place the port caps on as you finish with them. Wait 48 hours for it to dry.

Knock the ports off the wall with a hammer, and chisel the epoxy paste off. Fill in the port holes with sealant if there was an indention left behind, and smooth it over flat with a scrape or trowel.
