Wallpaper Removal Equipment

Removing wallpaper from either drywall or plaster walls can be a difficult and tedious process, but having the proper equipment will make the job go quicker and give a more professional-looking result.
  1. Basic Equipment

    • You'll need some basic equipment that you most likely already have around the home. This includes a ladder to reach high points on the wall, a pail to mix the wallpaper stripper solution, a spray bottle to apply the stripper and a sponge to wipe down the walls.

    Wallpaper Steamer

    • A steamer is a piece of equipment you can use instead of applying wallpaper stripper to the wall. It is a device that uses hot steam to loosen the glue holding the paper to the wall and can be rented at most home improvement stores.

    Scraping Tools

    • A wallpaper scoring tool is crucial when it comes to breaking the bond between the wallpaper glue and the wall. They come in various designs, but all of the scoring tools work by gliding them over the wallpaper; tiny blades on the underside pierce holes in the wallpaper, which allows the wallpaper stripper or steam to penetrate the paper. A putty knife, which can range from 2 to 12 inches wide, depending on the size of the job, is used to scrape the wallpaper off the wall.
