Hold a roll of wallpaper next to the doorway. Line it up with the last piece of paper you applied to the wall. Unroll the paper and ensure it will reach from the ceiling to the floor.
Match the pattern on the roll of paper to the adjoining piece you adhered to the wall. Mark the top of the paper with a pencil or slit it 1 inch in on both sides with a craft knife.
Fold the top of the paper at the markings or slits, using a yard stick as a guide to keep it even. Cut the paper along the fold line with shears.
Place the paper on your work table, right side down. Coat the length of paper with paste using a wallpaper brush. If you're using prepasted paper, soak the piece in water according to product directions.
Set the top of the pasted paper against the wall over the door until it's lined up with the edge of the ceiling. Smooth the paper against the wall.
Cut the center of the excess paper away from the open doorway with the pair of shears.
Trim the paper along the edge of the doorway until it's even along all three sides of the open area. You can cut the paper, leaving a 1-inch excess around the door frame as another option. Cut the paper on a diagonal in each corner of the doorway and smooth the paper into the frame opening.
