Instructions

    • 1

Move any furniture away from the immediate area where the drywall needs to be patched and place a drop cloth under the affected area to protect the flooring.

    • 2

Put on eye protection and a dust mask. Close any open windows to keep dust from being disbursed through the house and turn off any nearby fans. Cut into the textured drywall with a saw. Cut the hole into a square with a saw, making it even all each side.

    • 3

Measure the new square diameter with a tape measure. Cut a section of drywall from a new sheet matching the hole's dimensions. Insert the patch into the square hole in the textured drywall. Fasten the patch into place by screwing drywall screw into the studs behind the patch with a screw gun.

    • 4

Tape the seams on all four sides of the patch with drywall tape. Paste joint compound onto the patch and over the drywall tape with a putty knife. Make the application even and extend it a couple of inches past the tape border. Let the joint compound dry as long as recommended by the manufacturer.

    • 5

Sand the joint compound over the patch with fine-grit sandpaper until smooth and even. Spray a coat of spray-on texture. The texture should be similar in color to the rest of the textured drywall. Let dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 6

Pick up a large piece of the cut-out textured drywall to a hardware or paint store and have the paint matched. Open windows and turn on nearby fans to ventilate the area. Prime the patch and let dry. Paint over the primer once dry.
