How to Fix Scratches on a Wooden Wall

Wooden walls or paneling give your home a natural, country or rustic look. They are low-maintenance and do not require painting. Occasionally, a mishap may result in a scratch on the wood walls. It is not difficult to repair the scratch. Minor scratches may be disguised with cream shoe polish. Instructions

  1. Patching the Scratch

    • 1

Place the supplies on a work surface near the wooden wall. It is important to apply the wax while it is hot to mold it into the scratch well.

    • 2

Heat the wax stick or crayon with a candle flame, hot patch knife or similar type of heat source.

    • 3

Catch the wax stick drips with your flexible metal spatula or a butter knife. Immediately rub the hot wax into the scratch on the wall.

    • 4

Work the wax into the scratched area well with the spatula or knife.

    • 5

Add more hot wax if necessary to fill in the scratch. Smooth the surface of the wax so it is even with the wood.

    • 6

Scrape off any excess or bumpy wax with a razor blade edge until it is smooth.

    Shoe Polish Method

    • 7

Dip a cotton swab into cream shoe polish that closely matches the wood

    • 8

Rub the shoe polish into the scratch, going with the grain of the wood.

    • 9

Buff the polish with a soft, lint-free cleaning cloth. Step away from the wall to inspect the wood and check on the visibility of the scratch. Repeat the method until the scratch is no longer visible.
