How to Patch a Stucco Corner

Occasionally, the stucco on a wall can wear out or come loose, especially on the corners, requiring that you patch the area to prevent more stucco from working loose. Applying a bonding adhesive to the new stucco will allow the patch to adhere to the wall better and make the stucco stronger. Patching a corner of the wall with stucco can be done in just a few minutes, depending on the size of the repair.

  • Paint brush
  • Screws
  • Power drill
  • Clean cloth
  • Water

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any loose stucco and debris from the corner to be patched with a paint brush. Fasten any loose corner bead or metal lath against the wall with screws and a drill.

    • 2

Apply clean water to the area with a clean cloth to rinse any remaining residue from the area. Place the pre-mixed stucco in a five gallon plastic bucket and stir in a cup of bonding adhesive to the mixture for every gallon of stucco, mixing with a hand trowel. Add water slowly and stir the mixture until it is the consistency of peanut butter.

    • 3

Add a cup of pigment mortar dye to the mixture and mix it together with the hand trowel. Add more mortar dye to the mixture and stir it together until the color matches the existing stucco on the wall.

    • 4

Spread the stucco over one side of the corner with a hand trowel until it is completely covered and then apply the stucco to the other side of the corner. Smooth the stucco around the corner of the wall with the trowel and allow the patch to dry.
