How to Kill Soldier Termites

Soldier terminates are one of the social classes of termites in a mound. They are responsible for protection of the colony and have very large pincers on their head, around their mouth. They use the pincers to defend the colony against ants and other predators. They are incapable of feeding themselves and depend entirely on the worker terminates in the colony for food. The most effective way to kill the soldier termites is by eliminating the colony of worker termites and thereby destroying their food source.

Set up bright lights to shine in areas where you know there are termites. Termites do not like light and providing ongoing light may drive them out. Turn on the lights anytime natural light is not available in the infested space, until the termites are completely gone.

Locate and destroy the queen. The whole termite social structure centers around the queen. If you kill the queen, the termites will leave to join another colony where there is a queen. Find the queen at the center of the termites mount or nesting area. Use a shovel to dig out the mound, which may extend into the ground. Look through the mound's material for the queen. When you locate her, spray her directly with a termite killing insecticide or smash her until she is dead.

Limit the termites' contact with wood. Look for places that the soil touches the wood structure under your house; this is where termites invade. Use a shovel or a hand trowel to dig out the dirt in areas where it touches the wood.

Drive termite bait stakes that contain pesticide into the soil around the home when the soil is soft. Set stakes 2 inches from the house's foundation. The bait attracts the termites, which then carry the poison back to the nest.

Spray a termite pesticide product around both the inside and the outside of the home. Follow the application instructions on your pesticide package for the most effective and safest application techniques and rates.
