How to Measure Shower Tile

  Stand inside the shower. Measure the width of the longest wall and multiply it by the height of the wall, from the bottom of the shower to the ceiling. For instance, if the wall is 5 feet wide and 6 feet tall, the measurement equals 30 square feet.

  Measure the two end walls and multiply each one by the height. For example, if the end walls are 4 feet wide, this computes to 24 square feet for each wall.

  Combine all three measurements. For instance, this shower measurement equals 78 square feet.

  Add 10 percent for waste and breakage, which in this instance equals 78 square feet times 10 percent. Buy an estimated 86 square feet of tile for the shower.

Inches

  Measure the height and width of the first wall in inches.

  Multiply the two numbers. For example, if the height is 60 inches and the width is 90 inches, the total equals 5,400 inches.

  Divide the total by 144 to get square footage for the wall. Do this for all three walls and add the totals together to compute total square footage.
