Cut the drywall compound along the edges of the metal piece with a razor blade. In addition, use the blade to scrape off the surface of the metal so that you are able to see the screws.
Unscrew the screws with the aid of a drill.
Pull the metal strip off the corner of the wall and sand down the wall surface with a 220-grit paper. This will smooth the wall where you pulled out the strip.
Place a new strip over the corner and drill drywall screws through the holes to secure it.
Spread a thin layer of drywall compound over the metal strip. Use a 4-inch taping knife to apply the compound.
Let the material dry for 12 hours, and then sand it smooth.
Apply a second coating of drywall compound over the strip. Use a 6-inch taping knife and spread it out from the corner on both sides. Thin the compound closer to the wall surface as you move away from the corner. Let the surface dry for 12 more hours, and then sand it smooth.
Paint the corner to match the rest of the wall. Use a paintbrush and make long even strokes.
