How to Join Paneling With Plastic Joints

Wall paneling made of plastic and fiberglass with plastic joints allows you to alter the look of the walls in any room. The plastic paneling is placed on the current wall of a room, changing the look of the wall. Most often, plastic paneling is used in showers to create a waterproof system with no visible seams. Knowing how to properly join the panel pieces is important to ensure the panels are tightly connected to each other, providing a waterproof seam.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the manual for the plastic paneling for any specific steps you must take in the installation. The installation process can vary depending on the manufacturer, so it's important you follow all specific instructions in the manual.

    • 2

Place the paneling adhesive into the caulking gun. Cut the tip off the paneling adhesive tube with the utility blade at a 45-degree angle.

    • 3

Spread adhesive on the wall where the paneling will be installed and push in the first plastic paneling to the wall. Let the first piece of paneling dry for at least one hour before continuing to install the rest of the paneling.

Spread adhesive on the wall where the next piece of paneling will go on. Push in the next piece of paneling at an angle into the plastic joint of the installed panel. Once the plastic paneling snaps into the joint, push it back against the wall so it adheres to the adhesive on the wall. Let the panel dry for at least 20 minutes before installing the remaining panels, using the same process.

Place adhesive on the seams between each paneling. Push in the trim from the paneling trim kit to the adhesive. Clean excess adhesive with a wet sponge. Install the remaining pieces from the trim kit by following the directions included with the trim kit. Let the finished paneling dry for at least 24 hours before exposing it to water.
