How to Hide Patched Drywall

Drywall is an inexpensive substance used for the building of walls in the home. Because it is made of paper and plaster, drywall is frequently damaged and needs patching. The problem with patching holes is the ugly look of the patch itself, which can ruin the aesthetic appeal of your wall. Properly applying the patch then covering it can be done with a few simple tools and some paint, so don't fret patching up those ugly wall holes.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply drywall seam tape around the drywall patch if you are using wire mesh to reinforce the patch. Push the tape into the drywall compound you applied for the patch to smooth it out. Allow the patch to dry.

    • 2

Sand the patch even with the wall using 80-grit sandpaper. Make the patch as smooth as possible.

    • 3

Apply a paint primer over the patch to cover the compound. Do not skip this step or the wall paint will look dry when applied to the wall after being absorbed by the compound. Allow the patch to dry.

    • 4

Paint the patch with a color matching the rest of the wall. Use leftover paint from the original paint job if possible.
