How to Caulk External Coaxial Cables

If you have cable or satellite in your home it is connected to your television via a coaxial cable. These cables often run through walls in various rooms of your home. If you have run a coaxial cable through a wall yourself you've probably noticed that there is space around the area where the coaxial cable passes through. Seal this space with caulk to secure the cable so it won't shrink back in the wall if it gets moved. Caulking any openings or cracks in your walls will also keep energy costs down.

Things You'll Need

  • Power drill (optional)
  • Caulking gun

Instructions

    • 1

Use your power drill to drill the hole where you will pass the coaxial cable through. The drill bit should be just large enough to create a hole wide enough for the cable.

    • 2

Run the coaxial cable through the wall.

    • 3

Pull the metal rod at the rear of the caulking gun all the way back until it can't go any further.

    • 4

Insert the tip of the caulking tube into the circular hole at the top of the caulking gun trigger.

    • 5

Cut off the end of the caulking tube at an angle using scissors. If your caulk gun has a spout cutter, insert the tip of the caulking tube and pull the trigger to snip the end of the tube off.

    • 6

Insert the tube of caulk into the barrel frame of the caulking gun so that the tip of the tube is sticking out of the end of the gun.

    • 7

Push the rod through the bottom of the tube and all the way into the tube until it can't go any further. The caulking gun is now ready to use.

    • 8

Pull the trigger on the caulking gun to discharge small amounts of caulk into the open space in the hole you have drilled. Use just enough caulk to close the gap. Allow the caulk to dry.
