How to Cover Cracks in Foundation Walls

The foundation of your home is the structural support for the walls above it. Due to weight and settling soil underneath the foundation, as well as seeping water, cracks may appear in the foundation over time. Small cracks are often acceptable and do not indicate a serious problem, but larger cracks may let water in from the outside the home, further exacerbating the problem. Attempt to fix cracks as soon as they appear to prevent dangerous situations.

Instructions

    • 1

Dry the crack with a blow dryer if it is moist.

    • 2

Scrub the crack clean of any debris using a stiff brush. Vacuum out the dust.

    • 3

Tap 10d nails into the crack, spaced 12 inches apart, with a hammer.

    • 4

Mix together the two parts of your epoxy crack sealer on a scrap piece of wood until it has a gray color.

    • 5

Spread the sealer onto the base of the plastic injection points that come with your kit. Slide the injection points onto the nails hammered into the walls.

    • 6

Spread the epoxy sealer over the entire crack and around the injection points.

    • 7

Insert a tube of liquid concrete repair into a caulking gun. Cut off the tip of the tube.

    • 8

Press the liquid concrete repair tube end over the nails in the wall and inject the liquid into the injection points until liquid flows out. Plug up the port with the cap.

    • 9

Saw the ends of the injection points flush with the wall once the liquid concrete repair has cured for five days.
