Leaking Foundation Walls

Foundation cracks are quite common. The great weight of your house causes the dirt underneath the foundation to settle. As the dirt settles, the foundation moves. This often causes hairline cracks to appear. Excessive water may cause the foundation concrete to crack as well. Many wall cracks can be patched and made like new. If you notice horizontal cracks running the length of the wall, contact your local contractor to have the structure of your home inspected.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out the cracks in the wall using a stiff brush. Vacuum the dust from the hole.

    • 2

Pound a 10d finishing nail into the crack, every 12 inches.

    • 3

Mix together the crack epoxy on a wooden board using a putty knife.

    • 4

Apply the epoxy to the back of the plastic injection points. Place the injection points over the nails in the crack.

    • 5

Spread the rest of the epoxy over the crack to seal it.

    • 6

Insert a tube of liquid concrete sealer into a caulk gun. Cut off the tip of the sealer.

    • 7

Inject the sealer into the injection points until it flows out the top of the point. Insert a plastic cap into the injection point and allow the sealer 12 hours to cure.

    • 8

Cut the injection points flush with the wall.

    • 9

Insert foam backer rod into cracks between the floor and the wall, recessing the backer rod a 1/4 inch under the surface of the concrete.

    • 10

Spread urethane caulk into the crack, over the backer rod. Smooth the caulk with the back end of a spoon.
