How to Cover Up a Hole in Drywall With Homemade Items

Small holes on drywall look unattractive, and if you are renting a house or apartment they can prevent you from receiving your security deposit back when you move. If you need to fix small holes quickly, you can do so with homemade items. There are different methods to cover these small holes, and you are sure to find the items needed in your home for at least some of these methods.

  • Toothpaste
  • Putty knife
  • Aspirin
  • Water
  • Flour

      Squeeze a dab of toothpaste on your finger, preferably of the same color as the wall. Apply the toothpaste to the hole with your finger, covering it completely. Use a putty knife to remove the excess and level the hole. Allow it to dry. Apply another layer of toothpaste if the first layer shrank.

      Crush an aspirin, or more if needed, until it is powder. Add a few drops of water to create a paste. Apply the paste to the hole in the drywall with your finger. Level and remove excess with the putty knife. Allow it to dry.

      Mix 1 tbsp. of white flour with 1 tbsp. of table salt. Add a few drops of water to create a workable dough. Place a small amount of the dough on the hole with your finger. Use a putty knife to remove excess and level the dough with the wall. Allow it to dry for one day.

      Mix equal parts of cornstarch and salt. Add a few drops of water to create a paste. Apply the paste to the hole with your finger. Remove excess with a putty knife and allow to dry. Repeat as necessary.
