How to Glue Sheathing to Cinder Blocks in a Basement

Sheathing comes as an extruded foam which gives insulation from temperature extremes and noises. It is often placed in between studs on the outside walls as a home is built. When finishing a basement it serves the same purpose. Instead of attaching the sheathing to plywood it is often attached to concrete or cinder block walls, and then sheetrocked over. Gluing it to the blocks is an easy DIY project.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the sheathing to size with large shears or a utility knife.

    • 2

Cut the tip off the tube of foam adhesive at a 45-degree angle and poke the wire rod on the front of the gun into the tube to break any potential seal. Place the tube of foam adhesive in the caulking gun and lock it in by pulling the trigger several times.

    • 3

Squeeze a bead of adhesive onto the back of the sheath and continue until the edges are covered and sufficient glue is in the middle to hold the sheathing to the wall. You will have to experiment to determine which amount of adhesive works best with your combination of sheath and cinder block.

    • 4

Press the sheath against the wall in place and hold it there until the adhesive has set enough for you to release it. Again, this is determined by your particular combination of materials.

Once the sheathing is set to the wall you can begin to sheetrock the room.
