How to Spackle Textured Walls

One great benefit of textured walls is the texture hides slight imperfections that would otherwise scream for attention on a smooth, flat wall. However, even textured walls can sustain damage and develop cracks or holes that need repairing or the wall will suffer additional issues, such as leaks. Spackle, available at a local hardware or home improvement store, provides a quick, not-too-messy way to cover the damage and imperfections.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape out any loose debris from the hole or crack in the textured wall, using a utility knife. Cut away any loose paper, using the knife.

    • 2

Apply a minimal amount of ready-to-use spackle to cover the entire hole or crack, using your finger, or a putty knife. Scrape away any excess spackle to make the spackle as smooth as necessary and also flush with the wall surface.

    • 3

Dampen a sponge with water, and dab the sponge into the still-wet spackle to create matching texture in it, or use whatever technique was used to create the texture pattern in the rest of the wall.

    • 4

Allow the spackle to completely dry, following the product manufacturer's instructions as to the amount of time needed.

    • 5

Paint over the spackle, using a paintbrush, if the spackle dries to a different color than the rest of the wall.
