How to Use GCO Sheetrock 20

GCO Sheetrock 20 is a setting type joint compound for gypsum wall boards that sets in 20 minutes, rather than the standard joint compound, which sets in 90 to120 minutes. Sheetrock 20 finishes gypsum wall paneling, as well as repairs damaged gypsum board. The material mixes and applies like other joint compounds, but dries faster. So, you must work quickly when applying Sheetrock 20 to gypsum wallboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix the GCO Sheetrock 20 joint compound with water. Follow the mixing instructions supplied with the joint compound.

    • 2

Apply a thin layer of Sheetrock 20 to the gypsum wall board joint with a 10-inch wall board knife. Press wallboard tape along the centerline of the joint, leaving 1/32 inch of compound under the tape. Remove excess Sheetrock 20 joint compound with a 6-inch wall board knife. Allow the compound to dry for 20 minutes.

    • 3

Apply an additional layer of Sheetrock 20 over the dried, taped joint with a 10-inch wall board knife, extending the joint compound approximately 2 inches on either side of the initial compound application. Allow the joint to dry for 20 minutes.

    • 4

Apply a third layer of Sheetrock 20 over the joint with the 10-inch wall board knife, again extending the joint compound approximately 2 inches on either side of the second compound application. Allow the joint to dry for 20 to 30 minutes.

    • 5

Sand the joint smooth with sandpaper and apply the paint finish to complete the wall.
