How to Clean Plaster Dust From Walls After Repair Work

Removing or replacing plaster walls can be messy work. While plaster walls are thick, sound resistant and can help keep moisture at bay, they can be difficult to replace. However, because plaster walls were used many years ago almost exclusively, some believe it is important to keep the historical accuracy of the home by keeping the plaster walls. Plaster is heavy, though, and it can be difficult to work with. If you have to remove plaster from your home, prepare yourself by wearing a mask and getting the right tools before you start.

Instructions

    • 1

Reduce the mess from plaster walls by placing a tarp or sheet on the floor underneath your work area and using a spray bottle filled with water to mist the plaster occasionally. This will help keep dust down.

    • 2

Remove as much of the dust as possible from the walls and other areas by vacuuming it up with a shop vacuum. A brush or flat attachment will help you work along the wall and remove dust from trim work.

    • 3

Sweep along the walls with a tack cloth to remove the remaining dust. Dust in crevices will be more easily removed using a tack cloth.

    • 4

Rinse out the cloth or shake it out inside a garbage bag or outdoors when it gets full of dust.
