How to Repair Drill Holes in Plasterboard

Drill holes in plasterboard, also known as drywall, might be due to relocating picture frames or mirrors, or they may be the result of incorrect measuring when working on a project. Where there is construction, there likely are to be mistakes, great and small. Fixing small holes in plasterboard is a simple repair and requires only a few supplies.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Dip your putty knife or a moistened finger into the jar of spackling paste and scoop out a small amount, about the size of a tablespoon.

    • 2

Apply the spackling paste across the drill hole, pushing it in and around the hole. Apply enough so that you no longer see the hole but do not overfill it. A little spackling paste goes a long way.

    • 3

Scrape off the excess spackling paste using the edge of the putty knife so that the paste is smooth and flush with the wall.

    • 4

Allow the spackling paste to dry for the time recommended by the manufacturer. Small amounts of spackling paste generally dry in less than 30 minutes.

    • 5

Sand the area until smooth. Sometimes the spackling paste will dimple a little after it dries. If so, simply repeat the process from Step 1.
