How to Clean an AEM Air Filter

AEM air filters are durable and reliable, which means you are able to clean them in a very simple way, allowing them to last you for a long time. It is extremely important that you keep your AEM air filter clean for proper function. Over time, excess dirt and grime build up on these filters. This project is simple and straight-forward and should not take you more than an hour to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your AEM air filter and measure the length of the filter. This is important, so measure exactly.

    • 2

Fill a bucket with warm water. You are going to be filling the bucket up slightly less than the length of the AEM filter. You are not going to want the water to be able to reach the filter neck, which is why this measurement is so important. Pour a cleaning solution that you can purchase from most auto-repair stores. Make sure you stir the cleaning solution and water together very well.

    • 3

Insert the AEM filter into the bucket filled with your cleaning solution. Again, make sure that none of the cleaning solution is able to reach the neck of the filter.

    • 4

Allow the AEM filter to sit in the bucket of cleaning solution for at least 10 minutes. Next, while the filter is still resting in the cleaning solution, gently rotate the filter to help remove any extra dirt and dust. Feel free to dip the filter in and out of the cleaning solution several times to continue removing dirt.

    • 5

Empty and clean your bucket of water. Repeat this entire process at least three more times to ensure complete cleaning of your AEM air filter.

    • 6

Clean the bucket and fill with only warm water. Insert your AEM air filter into the water. If you have cleaned the filter correctly, the water should stay clear, meaning all dirt has been removed from the filter. Once your AEM air filter is clean, remove it from the bucket of water and allow it to air dry before replacing it.
