Choose the proper size machine for the space to be deodorized. Consult with a supplier or manufacturer spec sheet before setting up the machine.
Remove all people, pets and plants from the space to be cleaned. If the room cannot be properly sealed, this may mean evacuating an entire house.
Clean or get rid of the source of the odor. For instance, if the room is to be deodorized from cigarette smoke, remove all the ash trays from the room prior to running the ozone generator.
Set the unit to its highest setting for an ozone shock treatment, according to the folks at Air-Zone Inc., a Suffolk, Va., manufacturer of ozone generators. Once the generator is on, get out of the room. Allow the unit to run for at least 30 minutes to as long as two hours, depending on the severity of the odor.
Air out the space before allowing people, pets and plants to return.
Repeat steps four and five if the foul odor remains.
